The Matthews Community Farmer’s Market in Matthews, NC is one of the best places to spend a Saturday morning in the Charlotte area! There’s something that just feels so right when you arrive at this wonderful market and see all the local farmers with their fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and wares. I know that I’m getting high-quality products AND I’m supporting local area farmers and craftsmen.
The Matthews Community Farmer’s Market is located on North Trade Street in historic downtown Matthews, NC. Operating in its 20th year, the market represents “the largest, most diverse producer-only farmer’s market in the greater Charlotte area.” All of the farmers and craftsmen are from within 50 miles of Matthews, which means you are really buying local, and buying fresh!
While you’re there, you can enjoy cooking demonstrations from local Charlotte top chefs, from great restaurants such as Barrington’s, Blue, Noble’s and Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen, to name a few. Catch some live music and participate in the “Chef’s Secrets” class each week. There are activities for the kids, so bring the whole family and enjoy the fun.
The Matthews Community Farmer’s Market is open year-round for local residents to enjoy! During the warmer months, from April to November, the market is open on Saturday mornings from 7:15 to noon. As an added bonus from May to July, the market is open on Wednesdays, from 11:00 – 1:00. During the winter months, from December to March, the market is open in Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
My favorite things at the Matthews Community Farmer’s Market? I LOVE the fresh lettuces, bok choy and other greens, as well as the juicy, sweet tomatoes! My husband loves the “hot pepper stand” called “As Hot as it Gets” – he’ll buy anything that causes him to erupt in a sweat! I love to buy a cup of coffee at the Community House, and look through the other dry goods sold at the store.
