Myers Park

Myers Park, just a few blocks south of Charlotte’s uptown area, is one of the Queen City’s most prominent, historic neighborhoods.  Characterized by the majestic willow oaks that form a gorgeous tree canopy over Queens Road West, Myers Park features stately estate homes built by some of Charlotte’s most prominent society members, including industrialists, financiers, politicians philanthropists and real estate developers.

History of Myers Park

Myers Park was designed by the renowned John Nolen, a Harvard trained landscape architect, who came to Charlotte in 1911 to collaborate with real estate developer George Stephens.  George Stephens was married to Sophie Myers, daughter of John Spring Myers, who owned a 1,200 acre tract of land that would soon become Myers Park.  Nolen’s vision was to create a streetcar community, where residents could walk to the streetcar stops on a grassy median and travel a grand loop within the community.  The layout of Myers Park is not your typical city grid plan.  The centerpiece of Nolen’s plan was Queens Road, which he transformed from treeless farmland to the breathtaking tree-lined boulevard that is Queen’s Road today.  The majestic tree canopy of willow oaks is beyond compare, and lives up to Nolen’s goal of creating “a suburb of surpassing elegance and attractiveness.”
