The results are in, and Newsweek Magazine has tallied its annual list of 2,000 BEST public high schools in the nation, and South Charlotte NC high schools rank prominently on this list! The Newsweek list of America’s Best High Schools ranks public high schools across the nation that have proven to be the most effective in preparing their graduates for college.
Methodology for Newsweek Ranking of Public High Schools
The top-rated comprehensive public high school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system is Providence High School, ranked #446 out of the 2,000 public high schools that made the cut. All public high schools in the nation were eligible for consideration. Over 5,000 public high schools were invited to participate in the rankings, and 2,500 responded. The Newsweek list of America’s Best High Schools looked at six components that are proven predictors of student preparedness and college success:
- Graduation rate – 25% of score
- College acceptance rate – 25% of score
- AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student – 25%
- Average SAT/ACT scores – 10%
- Average AP/IB/AICE scores – 10%
- Percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICE course – 5%
South Charlotte NC High Schools are Well-Represented in Newsweek Rankings
South Charlotte NC high schools fared well in the Newsweek rankings, which is consistent with recent SAT scores and end-of-grade test score results. A total of 73 NC public high schools appeared in the rankings, a great showing for North Carolina!
