I’d like to introduce you to a great tennis and swim club in Providence Plantation in South Charlotte – the Providence Plantation Racquet and Swim Club, or PPRSC for short! Located in the heart of the highly sought-after Providence Plantation neighborhood at 3100 Houston Branch RD, PPRSC is the recreational hub of the neighborhood year-round.
Exceptional Tennis for All Ages and Levels
The Providence Plantation Racquet and Swim Club features six Har-Tru tennis courts with a new lighting system so that tennis enthusiasts can play at night! Managed by Director of Tennis Scott Rickel, a P1 professional tennis instructor with 15 years of adult and junior coaching experience, PPRSC offers instructional and league play for juniors, women, men and mixed doubles. Scott and his assistant, Cory Ann Avants, offer private, semi-private and clinic instruction to members and non-members throughout the year.

As a happy member of the Providence Plantation Racquet and Swim Club Queen City League and USTA teams, I can vouch for the high level of tennis competition and instruction you will find at our club! In addition to competitive league play, the Providence Plantation Swim and Racquet Club offers several “social” tennis mixers and round-robin doubles tournaments. If you’re interested in signing up for tennis lessons or clinics, the prices for members are below (call for non-member prices):
- Private lessons: $50/hour, $28 per 1/2 hour
- Clinics (4 or more players) $14 per hour
- Junior clinics: priced per session
Thriving Junior Tennis Program at PPRSC
Tennis is a great sport for all ages, but PPRSC specializes in its Junior Tennis program. Starting with Tiny Tots (ages 4 – 6), the junior tennis program progresses to Beginners (ages 6 – 10), and Advanced Beginners (ages 10 and up). For the more serious junior players, PPRSC offers Junior Academy, which requires pro approval and a 2-day commitment for entry. Moving on up is the Junior Academy Plus, for younger tournament players who must commit to practice 4 days/week. Finally, PPRSC offers its elite Academy program for advanced and older tournament players who are seriously committed to advancing their tournament play. A high level of commitment and intensity is required for this program.
Junior-Olympic Sized Pool and Swim Team
Having a neighborhood pool is such a great asset to any community, and the Providence Plantation pool is certainly a great amenity. The Junior-Olympic sized pool, separate baby pool, snack bar, grilling area and decks, and shady cabanas make this pool really special. Starting in mid-May, the Providence Plantation swim team rolls into action with after-school practice, and the pool is open every day to all members after school is out for the summer. The PPRSC pool is a great place to socialize with friends, meet new neighbors, and enjoy the many parties and social activities offered throughout the summer.
Membership Information
The Providence Plantation Racquet and Swim Club in South Charlotte is quite a bargain! The one-time initiation fee is only $600, and the annual dues are just $600. That’s quite a lot of activity and fun for just $600 per year! When I moved to Providence Plantation in 1998, there was a waiting list, but there are memberships available now.
