I’ve heard many parents jokingly refer to middle school, in general, as the “black hole” of education, but that is certainly not true of Crestdale Middle School, which is a great middle school located in the Matthews area of South Charlotte NC! Despite the pre-teen angst, the challenge of “fitting in” in middle school, and students looking to find or create their own identities, Crestdale Middle School does a good job of nurturing its students and preparing them for the rigors of high school.
Crestdale is a School of Distinction in NC
For the academic year 2010-2011, Crestdale Middle School was named a School of Distinction in the North Carolina ABC testing program, with 89% of students scoring at or above grade level. Crestdale’s scores have been improving, and Principal Rhonda Houston has implemented goals and strategies to attain even higher scores. Built in the late 1990′s, Crestdale Middle has a student population of 980 students, and a teacher/student ratio of 27. The faculty is distinguished as well, with 17 teachers who have been certified as National Board Certified Teachers, a rigorous advanced curriculum that can take up to 3 years to complete. National school ranking website SchoolDigger.com has Crestdale Middle School, Matthews as a high-ranking (top 10%) middle school in NC, ranking the school at #58 out of 612 middle schools. Crestdale will strive to improve that top 10% ranking.
Crestdale Middle School Sports and Activities
Crestdale Middle School has an active athletics program for boys and girls. Sports offers are football, baseball, softball, basketball, track and field, soccer, golf, volleyball and cheerleading. The Crestdale Wildcats are always competitive, and school spirit is always fun to see, with students all clad in their navy and yellow school colors.
Clubs and extra-curricular activities at Crestdale Middle School include: National Junior Honor Society, Newspaper, Creative Writing, Student Council, Beta Club, Spanish Club, Dream Team, Spirit Club, Tech, Shakespeare Recitation, French Club, Odyssey of the Mind, Recycling, 24 Game, Sketching, Battle of the Books, Engineering Club, Mock Trial/Debate Team, Chess Club, Yearbook, and much more.
