Grier Farm Matthews NC is an awesome farm in Matthews NC where you can stop by throughout the year and buy fresh vegetables!  James Grier started the farm in 1993.  Sadly he passed away in June of 2013.  My kids and I have fond memories of driving past Grier Farm on Sardis Road and seeing Mr. Grier, in his overalls, tending to his garden.

Grier Farm Matthews NC is located in the heart of South Charlotte, close to the intersection of Sardis Road and Highway 51 (Pineville-Matthews RD).  Since the passing of Mr. Grier, the farm has been run by his wife Sara and daughter Lynn and other family members.

The Grier Farm has beautiful soil, enriched by compost and leaf mulch.  You’ll find seasonal vegetables growing year round, from  cooler weather lettuce, cabbage, kale and Swiss chard.  There are over 750 tomato plants growing now, which will keep lots of Matthews and South Charlotte residents happy!  I’m ready for the corn to be harvested, because there’s nothing better than fresh corn on the cob!

If you happen to stop by the Grier Farm farmer’s stand in Matthews, you might see the vegetable cart, laden with beautiful vegetables and an HONOR payment system!  How often do you see that?   It’s awesome, and feels like a throwback to earlier times when communities supported each other with their trades and wares.

The Grier Farm Matthews NC farmer’s stand is open on Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 9:00 am.  But get there early, because they will run out during the high season!
