Community Link is an awesome non-profit organization whose mission is “To enable individuals and families to obtain and sustain safe, decent and affordable housing.” This great organization, which began in 1929 as “Travelers Aid” to help stranded families and individuals return to a safe home, has evolved and grown over the years to provide a life-altering LINK between homeless people and community resources.
Community Link Gala Benefit – “Sweet Escapes”
Through “Sweet Escapes,” Community Link offers a tantalizingly sweet opportunity support the organization through a benefit gala. Picture 500 pounds of chocolate, hors d’hoeuvres, cocktails and music, along with a wide variety of auction items, and you’ll understand why Sweet Escapes is a benefit gala that is both meaningful and loads of fun!
Last night, I had the opportunity to attend Sweet Escapes (second year in a row – woo hoo!). I can vouch for the chocolate extravaganza! Everywhere you look are tables and tables of chocolate delicacies, from tarts, candies and chocolate covered strawberries to savory dishes like chocolate powder crusted tenderloin. There are chocolate sculptures, chocolate rivers, chocolate flowers, chocolate drinks….you name it, it’s there! The evening is warm and inviting, with attendees mingling and enjoying the sweets, while having the opportunity to bid on getaway packages, tickets, jewelry, artwork, restaurant packages and tons of other auction items. The goal of the event was to raise $50,000 or more to support Community Link’s mission. I would bet that they achieved their goal!
Community Link Services
1. Homeless to Housing. The agency helps needy families and individuals find rental housing (and helps with temporary subsidies), offers counseling and casework, provides connections to community resources, and provides support to very low income veterans and their families as they transition to permanent housing.
2. Homeownership Education and Foreclosure Counseling. Community Link helps individuals and families buy homes or save their home from foreclosure, and offers rehabilitation services for homes in need of repair.
3. Financial Literacy. Community Link offers free tax preparation services, financial coaching and educational outreach. The purpose of these services is to help people stick to their budgets, decrease debt, increase savings and understand credit.
Community Link Leadership
Community Link is led by Floyd Davis, Jr., the President and CEO. My husband, Pat, has served on the Board of this great organization, and he says that “Floyd provides experienced leadership with creativity in finding solutions to help those in need of safe and affordable housing.” He adds that Community Link is a long-established non-profit that is dedicated to finding housing solutions to the low-income citizens of Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
Community Link Donations
Although Community Link is supported by United Way, the organization needs YOUR support. My family has supported Community Link over the years because we feel that it provides a unique and valuable service to our community. It’s easy to donate both monetarily and in service.
